For folks who would seek out this book, the 'straight back at you' format is fine enough, but maybe the real issue is - parsing out who wears what hat and when - in relationships private, public, professional, etc. In fact evisceration and sex appear almost every other chapter, the investigation all but dropping by the wayside as the novel continues and Conway takes a break from all that plot stuff to throw information at us instead.
